Here a Blog, there a Niche……

I wont’ write too much about blogging per say as there is so much information about this subject matter on the net, in fact if you go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog, you will get very good information about blogs from a historical and current perspective. Suffice to say that in essence, blogging is a way to have a virtual diary, journal, commentary where you can add entries and others can make comments etc. You can monetize your blog by finding a niche ( niche marketing) and having articles ( quality articles) that will help to support what ever business you have chosen. Many people have problems in this area. The fact is a lot of people will go “I like this” and then find…oops..nope I want to do that instead. To make a good analogy, you take time to name your pet or child, why would you not do the same for your blog and niche? Below you will find a sure fire method to help you choose your market. Take the time and follow this guide, it will help to focus you in a productive way.

How to choose the right Niche for you? There are 3 major things you need to do, it takes a little time but is well worth it.

Ask yourself these questions:

1.What do you enjoy?..You know, your hobbies, things you do just to relax. The Internet is a big world. What you enjoy doing, you can and will find others who do as well.

2. This is a good question. What are your life experiences? What have you learnt about yourself that you could share with others? For example. You have lots of company over for dinner. You love cooking, well you could start a business all about cooking.

3.This is not so easy to answer, but dig inside yourself and find out what your talents are. We all have them..what are yours? You could start a freelance business based on those talents.

O.k. you have compiled a list. List them in order from your favorite down. Now what do you do? Well, do a little research and no it is not that difficult.

For the sake of this example, we will use “cooking” as your number 1 favorite.

First off, go to:

and enter the word ‘cooking’

what you will get is a bunch of keywords that people type in everyday to search for things. In this case when I typed the word ‘cooking’ , here is the list I got:

Searches done in January 2007

1977 fine cooking
1960 cooking pot
1955 wok cooking
1922 vegetarian cooking for everyone
1894 gourmet cooking
1867 spanish cooking

Take one of those words. In this example I am choosing ….’Spanish Cooking”. Go to Google.com and type in that phrase. You will see websites supplying that product/service and you will know how many competitors are out there that will be competing with you when you start a home business.
If you find a topic that is demanded in quantity but low in the suppliers, you will then make money. This should be your special market for which you do your niche marketing. You will make more money with a niche market as you will reduce and sometimes even eliminate competition. Go through your list of ideas until you narrow it down.

This is the beginning of creating your new adventure in successful blogging and Niche Marketing.

  1. Hi Alex2u – I really like your post, it provide an excellent foundation to finding the right niche to create or promote a product within.

You’re so right! It’s extremely important that the niche you work in is one you have a passion for, because at the end of the day any successful business requires a lot of work and persistance and passion is the rocket fuel that propells you forward …that’s been my experience anyway 🙂

Another quick and easy way to see if there’s any money in your niche market is to search in Google, then look for ads appearing on the right side of the results page. If there are a good selection of ads there you can be sure there’s money to be made in your niche market.

Then it’s just a matter of analyzing your competition to see what it is that they’re offering, this then points the way to what you also need to be doing and how you can make your offer better!

  2. Dear Brian:

Thank-you for visiting my blog on niches. It is appreciated. There are many ways of looking to see what a good niche would be for you. I have also found that by going through lets say Google trends as an example is also an excellent way to find out what people are wanting to know. Studying the patterns of this type of research can help you determine where you might want to go in terms of creating your niche. If you see something that you are already interested in, then indeed this could give you the impetuous to look into your niche more intensively. I have to be honest…..your idea of looking at the various ads surrounding any site, is one that is worthy of merit. My only problem with it is that to me, when i see them, unless they grab my attention right off the bat… I tune them out…oops. Please come back and visit again. I love sharing information 🙂

  4. HI: I would say the point to that whole post was to say, that when you are creating a blog or even a website for that matter, then by having a plan..concept on what you are doing and focusing it, then you will stand a much better chance at succeeding at what you do. When we talk in real, we use words and phrases to convey our point. On the net, it is the same thing, By looking at “keywords” we are really just fine tuning our thoughts, we are finding out what other people are wanting, needing etc. and then we use content, images to inform..not sell..but to inform. Doing the research ahead of time just is common sense, if you are wanting to become an authority on whatever business you are into.
I went to your website http://members.lycos.co.uk/degreearm/ …and my first question would be..what is it all about? what is your plan…The URL does not give me any clues? I hope that you will come back and tell me your thoughts ..Thanks for stopping by and
    To Your Success,
